Anton Grot

Anton Grot (born January 18, 1884 in Kelbasin , Poland as Antoni Franciszek Groszewski ; † March 21, 1974 in Stanton , California ) was an American art director and production designer of Polish descent , who was nominated five times for an Oscar in the category of best production design and received an honorary Oscar, the Technical Achievement Award , in 1941 .

Life

After emigrating to the United States , he began a career as a production designer and art director in the film industry and made his debut in 1916 in the silent film The Light at Dusk . In the course of his almost 35-year career, he was involved in the making of over 110 films. He also managed to win Carl Jules Weyl to work as a film architect in Hollywood .

He was nominated five times for an Oscar for his set designs and equipment, namely at the 1931 Academy Awards for Svengali (1931) by Archie Mayo , 1937 for A Restless Life (1936) by Mervyn LeRoy , 1938 for The Life of Emile Zola (1937) by William Dieterle , 1940 for a Queen's favorite (1939) by Michael Curtiz and the 1941 Academy Award for the black and white film The Lord of the Seven Seas by Michael Curtiz.

For his special merits he was given an honorary Oscar at the Academy Awards in 1941 with the Technical Achievement Award . His design and improve the illusion machine for waves and waves were honored this film studio of Warner Bros.
