Anton Höger
Anton Franz Höger (born October 30, 1956 in Munich ) is a German painter and composer.
Life
In Austria, five students of the writer and painter Albert Paris Gütersloh founded the so-called Vienna School of Fantastic Realism , among them Ernst Fuchs . One of his master students, A. Richard Penn, trained Anton Höger, who after completing his studies at the end of the 1970s, however, only returned to painting extensively in the early 2000s.
The Viennese School of the 1950s had primarily used the opulence of mannerism to portray their nightmarish visions. This figurative fantasy developed complex forms, the local differences of which become clear above all in the recourse to art-historical references. It was important to the representatives of this new fantastic movement to adhere unconditionally to the representational representation. Surreal currents of the 1920s that led to the dissolution of the figure, for example in Salvador Dali or Joan Miro , which paved the way to abstract expressionism. Anton Höger's painting style can be classified under Fantastic Realism . His subjects are modern man in science, art and religion.

Painting technique
The Viennese School, Höger's artistic home, featured unreal, dreamlike motifs in the opulent Mannerist style and an elaborate painting technique based on old Italian and Dutch painting. Admiration for the painterly finesse of the old masters and the attempt to achieve their effects had already led Otto Dix to a radical change in his painting technique in the mid-1920s. Anton Höger's work is often characterized by allusions to old pictorial symbols, which, however, he implements with the directness of a contemporary design language. Its realism corresponds to today's viewing habits.
