Live and act

He learned the trade with Carl Zach from 1889 to 1894. After that he worked with Ignaz Lutz . He worked as a journeyman with Carl Haudek from 1898 to 1903; then he made in 1902 independently . His workshop was at Lothringerstraße 16 in the 3rd district of Vienna. He built his string instruments mainly according to Stradivari models with good wood quality. He also made numerous guitars, as well as lutes and other plucked instruments , concentrated on them from 1924 and specialized in particular in the repair of instruments. He also won several medals and diplomas at many exhibitions. He became a leading member of the Vienna Guild. As head of the violin makers' cooperative, however, he had to resign in 1929 because he had lost a lawsuit due to unfair competition. He built around 300 violins , 20 violas and 10 cellos .

Anton Jirowsky had a son (1904–1951) and a grandson (1937–2000) of the same name, who also worked as instrument makers in the same workshop.

According to Josef Zuth's Handbook of Lute and Guitar , Jirowsky initially used models and drawings by Thomas Zach when making his violins , from whom he had also learned according to this source; Old Viennese and Spanish instruments are said to have served as models for his guitars, which he made from 1924. According to Zuth, some of his guitars are made similar to violins and have a curved top, f-holes, length bass bars, sound post , a free-standing bridge and tailpiece on the frame button. His son Anton Jirowsky II, who was born on September 29, 1904, entered his father's workshop as an apprentice in 1921 and built guitars based on Spanish models, among other things. He died in 1951. His son Anton Jirowsky III (1937–2000) continued the workshop.
