Anton Pein (born May 9, 1967 in Klagenfurt ) is an Austrian darts player . The trained installer became known beyond the darts scene with his first round defeat against 13-time world champion Phil Taylor at the Professional Darts Corporation World Championship 2007 (PDC).

Career

He was drawn to darts in 1989, at a time when electronic dart machines were still relatively new in Carinthia and the first e- dart clubs were established. In this milieu he quickly established himself as a fixture in the local area and won the Carinthian team championship title in his first season. By the mid-1990s he rose to become one of the best Austrian e-dart players and was also able to record his first international successes. His great sporting goal at the time, the achievement of the national championship in men's singles, was still denied to him.

In 1995, Pein decided, not least because of the better sporting prospects, to increasingly intervene in international steel darts. But there were initially great successes in e-darts, where he won both the European Championship in men's singles (EDU version) and the World Championship in the team in 1998. The long-awaited national men's singles title also appeared this year.

At the beginning of the new millennium, Pein reduced his e-dart program in order to be able to concentrate more on steel darts. This step was initially associated with a slight career kink, before he was able to gain a foothold here with the victory at the Austrian Open of the World Darts Federation (WDF) in 2005 . 2006 was Anton Pein's most successful year so far, after winning three international e-darts championships, he was able to win the qualifying tournament for the PDC World Championship in Geiselwind , which he himself described as a " career highlight so far ". He was the first Austrian to qualify for what is arguably the most important darts tournament in the world, and for the first time gave domestic darts a noticeable report in the national media. In 2007 Pein played the tournament series of the German Darts Corporation (GDC), which he finished in fifth place, which of course was not enough for another World Cup qualification.
Also in 2008 he will contest this tournament series, with good results he aims to start at the PDC major tournaments in 2009, a step which, according to his own statements, has so far failed because of the financing.

Anton Pein is single and childless.
