Anton Rop

Anton Rop (born December 27, 1960 in Ljubljana ) was the fourth Prime Minister of Slovenia between 2002 and 2004 . Until 2005 he was also chairman of the Liberal Democracy of Slovenia .

Rop graduated from the Institute of Economics in Ljubljana with a degree in economics in 1984. Between 1985 and 1992 he was deputy director of the Slovenian Institute for Macroeconomic Analysis and Development (Institut za Makroekonomske raziskave in razvoj) . In 1993 he was appointed State Secretary with responsibility for privatization and regional development. Between 1996 and 2000 he served as Minister for Labor, Family and Social Affairs under Prime Minister Janez Drnovšek .

After the election to the State Assembly at the end of 2000, he was appointed Minister of Finance. He held this position until his appointment as Prime Minister of Slovenia on December 19, 2002. After his party lost the Slovenian parliamentary elections in October 2004, he had to give up the post on November 9 in favor of his successor Janez Janša .
