Andrei Bajuk

Andrej Bajuk (born October 18, 1943 in Ljubljana ; † August 16, 2011 ) was a Slovenian politician , finance minister and prime minister of his country.

He was also chairman of the New Slovenia party between 2000 and 2008 . After the elections in October 2004, a new government was formed, chaired by Janez Janša , with Bajuk holding the post of Vice Prime Minister and Finance Minister.

Life

His family fled to Argentina after the communists came to power . Bajuk completed business studies at the universities of Mendoza and Chicago and graduated with a doctorate from the University of Berkeley . He then held various positions in the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank before moving to Slovenia in 1999 .

Bajuk played a leading role in the draft law on the privatization of Slovenian banks. Between May and November 2000 he became Prime Minister for a short time after a government crisis . After the 2004 elections , he took over the post of finance minister in the Janša government. After his party "New Slovenia" was unable to collect the necessary share of the vote for entry into the Slovenian National Assembly in the 2008 elections , on September 21, 2008 he announced his resignation as party chairman.
