Anton Schlude (born November 17, 1808 in Hausen im Tal ; † May 4, 1863 there ) was a German nature and local poet.

Life

Anton Schlude was born as the eleventh of fifteen children of the shoemaker Ottmar Schlude and his wife Benedikta nee Vögtle. Besides him, two older and two younger siblings survived. Despite only having an elementary school education, he was considered a “boy wonder”. Severely physically handicapped from childhood on, Schlude managed poorly with casual activities in his home village, including playing the violin that a cousin had taught him, as a mole catcher (“water moult”), goosefender, Danube fish trader and as a night watchman. Poetry gave him strength.

Appreciation

In the Beuron district of Hausen im Tal, a square in the center of the village was posthumously named "Anton-Schlude-Platz" in recognition of Schlude's work. In this regard, the Schmiedbachbrunnenplatz was redesigned in 2009 and a red beech was planted. Furthermore, a stone from the former quarry of the Thiergarten district was set as a memorial stone with a text and picture board for Schlude. The festive handover of the new square and the unveiling of the memorial stone took place on September 13, 2009.
