Anton "Toni" Tripp (born August 2, 1911 in Essen , † August 2, 1991 in Düsseldorf ) was a German photographer and publicist .

Life

Tripp's career as a photographer began in 1929 with studies at the Folkwang School with Max Burchartz in Essen, which he broke off after a short time. From 1937 to 1940 Tripp completed an apprenticeship as a photographer. After the Second World War he first came to Schlüchtern , where he was appointed district administrator in 1946. However, the appointment was revoked by the US military government after only two days due to his membership of the KPD .

From 1947 Tripp worked as a photographer, mainly serving the genre of worker photography . A staunch communist himself, he worked as a journalist and photo editor for socialist magazines such as “Arbeiterfotografie” , “Die Liga” , “Frau und Frieden” or “Poeten für den Frieden” . He documented mine closures, protest and Easter marches , labor disputes and the everyday life of the working class on the Rhine and Ruhr. Between 1951 and 1969 he ran the TT picture service in Düsseldorf, with which he supplied numerous newspapers, such as the Spiegel , as well as news and press agencies .

As a pensioner, Tripp devoted himself more and more to writing and poetry.

In addition to his work as an artist and journalist, Tripp became known for his commitment to endangered ground monuments in the Rhineland. For example, he campaigned for archaeological excavations on the grounds of the Düsseldorf Schlösser Brewery and for the complete preservation of Haus Bürgel . He was also actively involved in the design of the history trail "Millennium Stones" in Düsseldorf-Garath .
