Anton Vorbichler

Anton Vorbichler SVD (born January 21, 1921 in Einhörn ; † October 29, 1999 in Mödling ) was a Roman Catholic priest and ethnologist .

Life

He studied in the Mission House of St. Gabriel and Rome . He worked as a missionary in the Congo and combined research and lecturing activities with his assignment. From 1957 to 1961 he studied African Studies in Hamburg , where he received his doctorate on September 21, 1965 and completed his habilitation in 1965 . He came to Vienna in 1974 as a university professor for religious studies . At the same time he was teaching in the St. Gabriel Mission House. He died in the Mödling State Hospital and was buried on November 8th.

His main research interests were the natural religions of Central Africa, the recording and evaluation of various African dialects, as well as phonetics and linguistics studies.
