Anton Weidinger (born October 30, 1894 in Neukirchen am Walde , † March 19, 1949 in Linz ) was an Austrian politician ( SDAP / SPÖ ), tailor and tobacconist . Weidinger was a member of the Upper Austrian state parliament from 1931 to 1934 and a regional councilor in the Upper Austrian state government from 1945 to 1949 .

education and profession

Weidinger learned the trade of tailor and subsequently worked as an unskilled worker. During the First World War he served in Infantry Regiment No. 59 and was mainly deployed in Romania . During the war he contracted a serious lung disease from which he finally died decades later. After the end of the war, Weidinger joined the Social Democratic Party and in 1920 took over a position in the State Invalid Office. Until 1922 he was a civil servant at the Invalidenamt Grieskirchen, after which he was a tobacconist from 1925 to 1945. Weidinger also held the office of regional chairman of the war victims association from 1932 to 1934 and from 1945.

In the political field, Weidinger was active as mayor of Bad Schallerbach between 1931 and 1934 , and from May 15, 1931 he was a member of the Upper Austrian state parliament. Weidinger lost his mandate on February 12, 1934 as a result of the outbreak of the Austrian civil war and was imprisoned for five months in the Linz Regional Court. Even after the National Socialists came to power in 1938, Weidinger was arrested, later he was arrested again or was under constant surveillance.

After the end of the Second World War, Weidinger was sworn in again as a member of the state parliament on December 13, 1945. He was also a member of the state governments of Gleißner III and IV , where he was responsible for social services, health care, and housing and settlement. Weidinger was also a member of several supervisory boards. Weidinger exercised his office as a member of the state parliament and state councilor until his death.
