Anton Wittmann (politician)

Anton Wittmann (* 14. January 1908 in Regensburg , † 10. October 1960 in Munich ) was a German politician of the SPD . He was a member of the Bavarian State Parliament with one interruption from 1954 until his death.

Education and employment

After completing his Abitur at the old grammar school in Regensburg, Wittmann studied for two semesters at the Philosophical-Theological College and passed the first teaching examination for elementary school teachers at the teacher training institute in Amberg. As a teacher, he initially worked at some elementary schools in the Upper Palatinate . He later moved to Munich to study at the State Trade Teacher Institute and the university and, after completing his exams, work at schools in the city. In 1940 he was called up as a non-commissioned officer in the Second World War . During a mission in Russia he was so badly wounded that he returned to school in Munich with 50 percent war damage. In 1944 and 1945 his property was completely bombed out. In 1951 he was appointed personal assistant to the State Secretary in the Bavarian State Ministry for Education and Culture and shortly thereafter appointed to the Higher Government School Council. In 1960 he was appointed government director.

Political activity

In the state elections in 1954 , Wittmann won a seat in the Bavarian state parliament in the constituency of Upper Bavaria . On June 24, 1955, he had to leave parliament due to a review of the election results, but returned to the state parliament on November 25, 1955. His successor during this time was Siegfried Ziegler . In the 1958 election , Wittmann moved back into the state parliament, and after his death Mathias Duschl moved up.
