Siegfried Ziegler

Siegfried Ziegler (born February 2, 1902 in Essen , † January 19, 1984 in Seefeld ) was a German Esperantist , publisher and politician ( SPD ). He was one of the re-founders of the German Esperanto Association (DEB) after the Second World War .

Life

Ziegler studied geography at the University of Cologne from 1924 to 1928 and was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD . After graduating, he worked as a teacher. From 1933 he headed the "Regional Studies Working Group" in Duisburg and was the editor of the Regional Regional News . From 1939 to 1945 he took part in the Second World War as a soldier.

Ziegler was chairman of the DEB until 1953 and at the same time director of the German Esperanto Institute . He was editor of the Esperanto magazine La ponto . Due to internal disputes, he left the DEB in 1953, but remained connected to the idea until his death. He bequeathed his Esperanto library to the German Esperanto Institute.

Ziegler published several works in and about Esperanto in his publishing house, including a small textbook on the world language Esperanto that he wrote himself in 1949 , using the pseudonym “P. Brikisto “( brikisto = 'brick maker' in Esperanto). In 1951 he was instrumental in the fact that a congress of the World Esperanto Federation was held in Germany ( Munich ) for the first time after the Second World War .

Furthermore, Ziegler was politically active. He joined the SPD and was from February 1951 to January 1954 chairman of the SPD district association Starnberg .

Ziegler was a member of the Bavarian state parliament from July 15, 1955, when he replaced Anton Wittmann , who had resigned due to electoral examination , to his resignation on November 25, 1955 . Here he was a member of the committee for cultural policy issues.
