Anton Wormbs

Anton Wormbs (* around 1611; † July 5, 1697 in Cologne ) was Vicar General of the Archbishop of Cologne .

Wormbs graduated in theology with a doctorate to the Dr. theol. since 1646 was pastor at St. Laurentius in Cologne and later also treasurer of the Cologne parish council. After he became professor of theology at the University of Cologne in 1655, in 1681 he was also rector of the university, he obtained a Cologne Cathedral canonical on July 8, 1679 . Subsequently, he renounced his pastoral position, he became official of the cathedral provost , who was also archdeacon and in the 1680s also represented the vicar general Johann Heinrich von Anethan several times before the Cologne archbishop Maximilian Heinrich von Bayern made him vicar general himself on August 6, 1693 appointed. At the same time also canon of St. Gereon , Wormbs was dean of the theological faculty for three years and even became rector of the university in 1681. Age and illness forced the pious man to resign from his position as vicar general at the turn of the year 1694/95. Shortly before his death, he also gave up on his cathedral canon, which he was still able to procure for his nephew Matthias Weipeler .
