The couple Anton (born September 21, 1909 in Ernsthofen ; † April 7, 1973 in Innsbruck ) and Antonia "Toni" Viehböck (born April 27, 1904 in Schwaz , † July 15, 1997 in Vomp ) saved the Jew David Ballhorn (* 1892) from the Holocaust by hiding it in their apartment from 1943 until the end of the war in 1945.

The Viehböck family lived in Innsbruck with two children . David Ballhorn stayed in various hiding places from 1942 - first in Berlin , then in Munich - to avoid deportation to a concentration camp . Looking for a helper who could help him escape to Switzerland , a wine merchant introduced him to Anton Viehböck in Munich. Although Viehböck had never seen Ballhorn before, he took him to Innsbruck. Since the further route to the Swiss border seemed too dangerous due to the numerous police patrols, the Viehböck couple hid the man from October 1943 until the end of the war and the liberation of Austria in 1945 in a shelter of their house in Brennerstrasse 3 a and provided him with everything he needed for life.

In 1978 the Israeli Holocaust memorial Yad Vashem honored Antonia and Anton Viehböck with the Medal of Honor of the “ Righteous Among the Nations ”.
