Antonia Pilars de Pilar
Antonia Baronin Pilars de Pilar (born April 10, 1872 in Birstein as Antonia Gabriele Marie Josefa Huberta Elisabeth Maximiliane Freiin von Oer-Egelborg ; † February 7, 1946 in Störmede ) was lady-in-waiting of the Duchess Marie of Mecklenburg from 1894 until her wedding in 1898. Schwerin born Princess Windisch-Graetz and later from 1911 to 1944 lady-in-waiting of the Duchess Marie Antoinette of Mecklenburg-Schwerin (1884–1944), called Manette, a cousin of Tsar Nicholas II.
family
Antonia was a daughter of Friedrich Freiherr von Oer (1842-1896), upper chamberlain of Prince Isenburg and Gabriele Khuen von Belasi (1841-1923). She married Ladislaus Baron Pilars de Pilar on May 9, 1898 in Birstein. Best man was Prince Karl II zu Isenburg and Büdingen (* 1838, † 1899) personally, as Antonia was the prince's ward after the death of her father. With Antonia Ladislaus had three children: Eduard (1899–1971), Antoinette (1901–1989) and Gabriel (1904–1978). Gabriel married Countess Anna Stubenberg in 1935 .
Life
Even before her marriage in 1898, Antonia was the lady-in-waiting to Antoinette's mother, Duchess Marie. After their marriage, Antonia moved to live with her husband in Struga, near Warsaw . After the family's house and factory were set on fire in 1906 by Polish rebels, Antonia and her three children fled to their relatives in Egelborg in Westphalia, hiding in a haystack and the maid . Her cousin Paula Freifrau von Ketteler , née Freiin von Oer, lived at Schwarzenraben Castle near Lippstadt and had only one child: Wilderich Friedrich Freiherr von Ketteler (1901–1957). She made the “Trillo House” in Störmede available to Antonia, very close to the castle. In addition to the support of her cousin, Paula Ketteler was looking for a playmate for her son. Antonia's son Gabriel grew up together with Wilderich, both were brought up and educated together.
Now that Antonia knew her children were safe under the care of her cousin, she resumed her position as lady-in-waiting to the Duchess Antoinette. During the First World War , the Duchess and Antonia served together as Red Cross ladies in various hospitals in the German Empire . For this she received the commemorative medal for the noble Grand Duke Friedrich Franz III, the Friedrich-Franz-Alexandra-Kreuz and the Prussian Red Cross medal 3rd class. After the First World War, Antonia continued to serve the Duchess until her death in 1944 in Bled , Yugoslavia . Antonia wound up the Duchess' inheritance and returned to Störmede in 1944 . She died a year and a half later and is buried in the Kettler family cemetery.
