Antonie Kaulbach

Antonie Kaulbach (born March 1875 in Hanover ; † January 1958 there ) was a German portrait painter .

Life

Antonie Kaulbach was born in mid-March 1875 and was the youngest of ten children of the artist Friedrich Kaulbach . Antonie came from his third marriage to Marie Wellhausen, as did the painter Anton Kaulbach and the writer Isidore Kaulbach . The painters Friedrich August and Sigmund Kaulbach (1854–1894) were half-brothers from their father's first marriage.

Antonie Kaulbach first learned painting from her father. Later she continued her education in her hometown with Ernst Jordan and at the Kunstgewerbeschule Kassel . Study trips to the Netherlands and Italy are documented. Later, in addition to Hanover, she also worked as a painter in Berlin for a time. For her portraits - mainly oil on canvas , but also pastel chalk on canvas and paper - she mainly used people from middle-class life as motifs.

She was a member of the Allgemeine Deutsche Kunstgenossenschaft and died in mid-January 1958.
