Antonio Álvarez Vidaurre

Antonio Álvarez Vidaurre (* 1899 - January 1969 in Madrid ) was a Salvadoran diplomat .

Life

A grandson of Antonio Alvarez Vidaurre, Luis Álvarez Cervera, a former Spanish horse rider. Antonio Álvarez Vidaurre joined the foreign service in 1921 and became chargé d'affaires in San José (Costa Rica) . In 1932 he was envoy extraordinary and ministre plénipotentiaire for Central America, based in Guatemala, later based in Tegucigalpa . From 1935 to 1937 he was Envoy Extraordinary and Ministre plénipotentiaire in Mexico City

Jorge Ubico Castañeda already recognized the regime of Francisco Franco, the second Spanish republic was still defending itself in Barcelona; with him Maximiliano Hernández Martínez was one of the first to recognize the coup regime. Antonio Alvarez Vidaurre was appointed Ministre plénipotentiaire under Francisco Franco in 1939, where he was accredited until January 12, 1951. From October 28, 1947 he was simultaneously accredited to the Holy See in Cairo , Rabat and Andorra . On October 5, 1950, the legation in Madrid was upgraded to an embassy. From 1951 to 1960 he was master of ceremonies in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of El Salvador and ambassador to Guatemala City and Tegucigalpa. From 1960 to 1962 he was again ambassador to Madrid. From 1961 to 1963 he was again accredited to the Holy See. From 1962 to 1965 he was the permanent representative of the Salvadoran government at the UN headquarters . In 1964 he was Vice President of the United Nations General Assembly in New York City .
