Antonio Catania (born February 22, 1952 in Acireale ) is an Italian actor.

Life

In 1968 Catania came to Milan from the province , where he graduated from the “Scuola d'Arte Drammatica Paolo Grassi” in 1975. As a comedian at the Teatro dell'Elfo, where he made his debut, he met the director Gabriele Salvatores , with whom he remained artistically connected for many years. After the film debut Kamikazen - Ultima notte a Milano in 1987, they went on theater tours together, then other films, including the breakthrough of the pilot in charlatan suits, "Carmelo La Rosa". Catania also played secondary and larger roles, mostly quirky characters, with other directors, twice for Leone Pompucci , for Davide Ferraio , Giuseppe Piccioni and Antonella Grimaldi, and for Antonio Mazzacurati . But up to the turn of the millennium, he remained above all the ideal cast for Salvatores, as the murdered commissioner in Puerto Escondido and in his other films.

1997 was his most profitable year up to that point: Catania was involved in five cinema productions; including Maurizio Zaccaro's Il Carniere as one of the friends who agreed to hunt in Yugoslavia and found themselves in the civil war. In the following year he belongs to the award-winning ensemble of Ettore Scolas La cena and begins his artistic collaboration with his old friends (joint appearances in the Milan “Zelig”) Aldo, Giovanno and Giacomo. Three joint films were made by 2002; other comedians in Italy cast him in their films. Even in the new millennium, Catania is a popular screen actor whose versatility is valued. Since 2005 he has also appeared increasingly for television, especially since 2010 and in series ( Tutti per Bruno , Boris , Ho sposato uno sbirro ; Benvenuto a tavola ).
