Antonio Muñoz Molina (born January 10, 1956 in Úbeda , Andalusia ) is a Spanish writer .

Life

Muñoz Molina studied journalism in Madrid and art history in Granada . In 1988 and 1992 he received the Spanish State Prize for Literature ( Premio Nacional de Novela ) and in 1991 the Premio Planeta , the most important Spanish literary prize, for the novel The Polish Rider . In 1995, Muñoz Molina was accepted into the Royal Academy of Language and Poetry ( Real Academia Española ). For 2013 he was awarded the Prince of Asturias Prize for Literature and the Jerusalem Prize .

Muñoz Molina currently lives in New York City , where he headed the Instituto Cervantes (Cervantes Institute) until 2006 .
