Antonio Munguía Flores (born June 27, 1942 in Mexico City - † January 8, 2018 ) was a Mexican football player whose regular position was in defensive midfield .

biography

During his career as a professional player in the Mexican Primera División , he was under contract with Club Necaxa from 1962 to 1966 . Then he switched to the Cruz Azul CD , with which he won three Mexican championships and three CONCACAF Champions' Cups .

National team

Between 1965 and 1971 Munguía completed a total of 44 international matches for the Mexican national soccer team . He was also part of the Mexican World Cup squad in 1970 and played in all four of the hosts' games: while he was only substituted on in the 67th minute in the first round match against the Soviet Union (0-0), he came on in the other group matches against El Salvador (4: 0) and Belgium (1: 0) over the full distance to use. Munguía was also in the starting line-up in the quarter-final against Italy (1: 4), but was replaced by Isidoro Díaz in the 60th minute .
