Gemini house in Weiz

The Geminihaus is a rotating solar house that was built as a prototype on the occasion of the Styrian State Exhibition 2001 with the motto Energy in the castle park of the city of Weiz (Siegfried-Esterl-Gasse 8). The client was the city of Weiz, the executive architect, DI Erwin Kaltenegger, who received the Austrian Euro Solar Prize 2001 for building the house. The house goes back to a concept of the former computer programmer Roland Mösl (Salzburg) from 1991.

construction

The body of the futuristic house consists of a standing cylinder 10.38 m in diameter and 7.15 m high. This cylinder is rotatably mounted on its concrete foundation (at the same time the cellar) and is azimuthally tracked to the course of the day of the sun ; At the same time, the photovoltaic modules on the roof with an area of approx. 70 m² are vertically adjusted to the position of the sun. Due to the good thermal insulation and a thermal solar system with an area of 10 m² as well as a heat pump and heat recovery , the amount of electricity generated is higher than the energy consumption of the house, which is why the Gemini house is to be classified as a plus energy house . The living space is approx. 125 m².
