Antonio Ubaldo Rattín (born May 16, 1937 in Tigre , Buenos Aires Province ) is a former Argentinian football player and politician.
Life
The midfielder , who was called "El Rata" ( The Rat ), played all his life for Boca Juniors , for whom he made his debut in 1956. He impressed with his solid, calm and serene game. With his team he won the championship in 1962, 1964 and 1965 and the cup in 1969.
He played a total of 34 times for the Argentine national team and was part of the 1962 World Cup squad and, as team captain, also in 1966 . In the quarter-final game against England in 1966, he was sent off the pitch by the German referee Rudolf Kreitlein because of constant complaining . But Rattín was very upset about this and refused to leave the square. Two police officers eventually had to remove him from the playing area. In this game, that interruption broke the barrel. England won the match 1-0, but the result was a long-standing rivalry between the two teams that went beyond the usual.
Rattín ended his career in 1970 after a total of 353 games and 26 goals for the Boca Juniors. He then became the youth coach, first of his club and later of Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata , but without being able to build on his successes as a player. He is still considered one of the greatest players to ever play at Boca Juniors.
From 2001 to 2005 Rattin was a member of the Argentine National Congress.
