Antonio Rotta

Antonio Rotta (born February 28, 1828 in Gorizia , † September 10, 1903 in Venice ) was an Italian painter and draftsman of genre painting .

Life

Antonio Rotta was accepted into the Accademia Reale di Belle Arti in Venice. There he was a student of Ludovico Lipparini . He was a representative of the Venetian genre painting before specializing more in sacred paintings. He later returned to genre painting and created scenes from Venetian life that often showed children. One of his most famous works was Il Ciabattino, the cobbler.

Many of his works were sold abroad. He had an exhibition in Berlin in 1891.

Antonio Rotta married a daughter of Lattanzio Querena. Their son was Silvio Giulio Rotta .
