Teddy Harris

Theodore Edward "Teddy" Harris Jr. (born August 27, 1934 in Detroit ; † August 22, 2005 there ) was an American jazz pianist (also soprano saxophone , flute ), composer , arranger and music teacher who was also active in soul and music R&B scene was active in his hometown.

Harris came from a family of musicians; his grandfather played the trombone, his mother was a pianist. From the 1960s he worked in the Detroit jazz , rhythm & blues and soul scene with musicians such as Marcus Belgrave , Donald Walden , Gregory Cook , Roy Brooks Art Farmer , Yusef Lateef , Lou Donaldson , Marvin Gaye , Martha Reeves and Aretha Franklin ( Yeah !!! In Person with Her Quartet , 1965); He was musical director for The Supremes for 16 years . He also arranged and composed for various ensembles and film scores such as That's How I Make My Living . He also directed the New Breed Bebop Society Orchestra and was an artist in residence in public schools. In the field of jazz he was involved in five recording sessions between 1965 and 2005.
