The pilgrimage church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary in Anzenberg

The Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary is a Catholic pilgrimage church in the Anzenberg district of the market in Massing in the Rottal-Inn district in Lower Bavaria .

Located on a small hill about one kilometer south-east of Massing, it was the destination of a Marian pilgrimage here as early as the 14th century. In addition to a castle that no longer exists, there was a much-visited Lady Chapel, which was replaced by a handsome church around 1500. The tower of the originally late Gothic pilgrimage church has been preserved to this day.

From 1733 to 1749, interrupted by the War of the Austrian Succession , the church was redesigned in baroque style by master mason Silvester Mayerhofer from Neumarkt-Sankt Veit . The ribbon work was created by Josef Pössinger from Neumarkt-Sankt Veit since 1741, the ceiling frescoes from 1744 by the Massinger master Anton Fux.

The showpiece of the church is the four-column high altar by Wenzeslaus Jorhan , which was erected in 1746 and fills the entire chancel. The miraculous image of Mary with child was created around 1520 and is attributed to the workshop of Hans Leinberger . In 1757 the church was consecrated in honor of the Visitation of Mary.
