Apistogramma linkei (German: Yellow Breast Apistogramma), first described by Ingo Koslowski in 1985, is a species of the cichlids (Cichlidae) and belongs to the genus Apistogramma . It was named in honor of Horst Linke, an author, breeder and collector, who among other things provided material for the first description.

features

While males grow up to 7 cm in size, the females remain significantly smaller at 4 cm. Males are characterized by a strong yolk yellow breast and lush fins with soft rays on the dorsal and anal fin extending to the middle of the caudal fin. The caudal is curved in a fan shape and its size only becomes clear when it is erected (e.g. threatening behavior). Whitish throat, light olive-colored upper half and delicate blue lower half of the body, body partly with an indistinct, dark longitudinal band. Females are greyish in color. During the courtship and mating season, they have a pale yellow basic color with a white belly and white throat, spot patterns, a black cheek band over the head, a strong caudal spot and black front rays on the dorsal and caudal fins.

Reproduction

The females of Apistogramma linkei attach their eggs to the ceiling of a breeding cave, where they are fertilized by a male by releasing their sperm. The males often take part in the brood care of eggs and larvae. The clutch can take up to 150 eggs.

food

Apistogramma linkei is generally omnivorous (omnivorous), but prefers animal food.

distribution

The distribution area extends over the central lowlands in eastern Bolivia , around the cities of Trinidad in the north and Santa Cruz in the south. Preferred biotopes are residual water pools, ditches and streams with floating plants. The acidity ( pH value ) of the water is between 6.6 and 7.8. In general, the species can be found in biotopes with different water values; accordingly, in relation to other species of the genus, it is characterized by relatively good adaptability, which also makes it interesting for aquaristics .
