The Aplocheilidae are a family of the toothfish (Cyprinodontiformes). The fish are slender and five to ten centimeters long. Your anal fin is always larger than the dorsal fin.
distribution
The Aplocheilidae live in fresh water , more rarely in brackish water in India , Sri Lanka , Madagascar , the Seychelles and in Southeast Asia as far as Java .
features
The fish are slender, almost round in cross section, and reach lengths of 5 to 10 centimeters. Their eyes are relatively large, their mouths wide and above them. Their ventral fin bases are close together. There is a metapterygoid (wing bone) and three basibranchials (bones at the base of the branchial arch). As a rule, the males are brightly colored, the females monochrome gray or brownish.

In the past, the African species that are now part of the new family Nothobranchiidae also belonged to the Aplocheilidae. Today only two Asian species belong to this family.
