The Smoked Angelfish ( Apolemichthys ) live in the Indo-Pacific . They are closely related to the Atlantic and East Pacific angelfish ( Holacanthus ). Smoked angelfish live in coral reefs , mostly below 20 meters deep. They are rather rare and many species only have a very small, endemic range.

features

Smoked angelfish are medium-sized angelfish and grow to be 15 to 30 centimeters long. There are no external gender differences, but the juvenile fish are often colored differently.

Way of life

Smoked angelfish live individually or in pairs and, as food specialists, feed primarily on sponges .

species

There are nine types :

The genus is probably not monophyletic , as the black- banded smoked angelfish ( A. arcuatus ) may be more closely related to the dwarf angelfish Centropyge narcosis and Centropyge colini than to the other Apolemichthys species.
