Apollo is a borough in Armstrong County , Pennsylvania , northeast of Pittsburgh . The settlement by white settlers took place in 1790. The United States Census 2000 counted 1765 residents.
Industry
The processing plant of the Nuclear Materials and Equipment Corporation (NUMEC) was located on site. The site is currently being renovated.
Rail transport
The now discontinued line of the Pennsylvania Railroad leading through the place was last operated by the McLaughlin Line Railroad . To the north there was a connection to Leechburg from 1906 to 1936 by the Interurban West Penn Railways . Their track bed between Apollo and North Apollo was later used by the PRR and its successor Penn Central .
