Trachau, which was first mentioned in 1242, originally belonged to the parish of the St. Laurentius Chapel in Kaditz (today Emmauskirche ), where the church school for the community was also located. In the course of the Reformation , the first Protestant service took place in Kaditz in 1539. Due to industrialization , the population of the communities rose sharply in the 19th century, so that the town of Trachau needed its own church. From 1873 to 1898 the services took place in the old school on today's street Alttrachau 52, in 1897 an assistant chaplain was set up for the place. After the opening of the new Trachau school in 1899, the gymnasium was used as a place for church services and in 1901 a bell cage with three bells was built in the school garden .

In 1908 an independent Trachau parish separated from the Kaditz parish and was now called the Apostle Parish. In the same year the landowner Johann Heinrich Trobisch provided the community with a plot of land for a church to be built, which is still remembered today by a picture and an inscription on the foundation stone in the basement of the church. Due to lack of money and the First World War , a new building was out of the question for many years. It was not until October 9, 1927 that the foundation stone was finally laid for a community center. Oswin Hempel's design originally envisaged a church as a construction phase to be carried out later (on the site of today's kindergarten), but this was never implemented.

"God shield that which is built by human hands, and grant his grace that through this house that other house also grows higher and higher, of which the words of the Apostles speak: You as living stones, build yourselves into a spiritual house!"

- Consecration sermon from 1929

In 1958 the church received a new organ from Alexander Schuke . Ten years later, the exterior and interior renovation of the building began, during which the tower was also repaired. In 2006 the belfry and bells were renovated.

During a renovation in 2011/2012, the nave was newly plastered and repainted together with the church tower. The entire church roof was also re-covered with around 4,000 bricks. The construction costs amounted to 300,000 euros, of which the regional church contributed 145,000 euros, the city of Dresden 23,000 euros and the community 132,000 euros. The organ was also refurbished for 24,000 euros. It was badly damaged by the ingress of water as a result of Hurricane Kyrill in 2007.

Since the unification of the Apostle parish with the Laurentius parish in Dresden Kaditz- Pieschen and the Weinberg church parish , the Apostle Church has been part of the Laurentius parish .

description

The building, adorned with sculptures by Stephan Hirzel and Kurt Dämmig, is considered to be a new, functional building with " expressionist sprinkles". An architecture of the “milder type of reforming late expressive building” characterizes the sacred building. The decoration was in the style of brick expressionism as a special variant of expressionist architecture using red-brown, unevenly colored bricks.

The baptistery is decorated with a wall design using sgraffito technology . Three layers of plaster (brown, beige and white) are scratched out. Scenes from the life of Jesus are shown.

Two of the original bells in the makeshift bell cage were melted down for armaments purposes during the First World War . In 1922 the community received two new bells, which, however , had to be given in during World War II for the same reason . In 1955 the community received two cast steel bells from the bell foundry in Apolda . In the course of the reconstruction of the belfry in 2006, these were replaced by two new bronze bells from Lauchhammer.
