Apparatschik is a band from Berlin that has existed since 1989.

history

Olaf Opitz (stage name Oljeg Matrosow) moved from the GDR to West Berlin in 1986. With other musicians he formed a trio of guitar, accordion and balalaika in 1988 . First they played at private parties and on the street before the first official appearances took place. The name apparatchik was chosen because during the time of glasnost and perestroika, Russian domestic politics was a frequent topic in the press and this expression was also used.

From 1993 the project “Skasdrowje” was launched with the Berlin ska band Blechreiz . This multicultural big band performed Russian folklore in Ska rhythm at many festivals.

According to their own admission, the band plays “ volx music ” with mostly Russian lyrics to dance music with the instruments electric guitar , balalaika , violin , accordion , drums and organ . Her version of Russian music is characterized by fast-paced polka and ska tracks, drinking songs, and lyrical ballads .

Apparatschik musicians worked in 2006 on the modern staging of the baroque opera "Orest" by Georg Friedrich Handel at the Komische Oper in Berlin. Apparatschik also performed their pieces together with the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Chemnitz Opera.
