Aquatic Sports Association of Malta (ASA of Malta for short; German  for example: "Maltese Watersports Association" ) is the national umbrella organization for water sports in Malta and one of 47 sports associations of the Malta Olympic Committee . His area of ​​responsibility includes swimming , synchronized swimming , water polo and open water swimming ; this also includes the organization of swimming and water polo competitions on a national and international level. The office is located at the National Pool Complex in the city of Gżira . The association is a member of the "Mediterranean Swimming Association" ( Confederation Mediterranée de Natation , COMEN), the European Swimming Association LEN and the World Swimming Association FINA .

The association was founded in 1925 as the Amateur Swimming Association of Malta on the initiative of supporters of water polo and immediately accepted into the FINA. In order for Malta's water polo team to make their first international appearance at the Olympic Games in Amsterdam in 1928 , an Olympic Committee was set up for the then crown colony that same year . The team won the first game, which was also Malta's premiere at the Olympic Games , 3-1 against Luxembourg .

In 2000 the association was given its current name Aquatic Sports Association of Malta by resolution of a general assembly .
