Aquirax Aida

Aquirax Aida (real name: Akira Aida ( Japanese 間 章 , Aida Akira ); born August 18, 1946 in Niigata , Niigata Prefecture , † December 12, 1978 ) was a Japanese music critic, promoter and producer.

Aida, who first made short films, became known for his collaboration with Japanese free jazz musicians such as Kaoru Abe ( Mort à Crédit 1975), Masayuki Takayanagi and Motoharu Yoshizawa ( Inland Fish 1974) as well as with Steve Lacy ( Solo at Mandara , 1975) and Dave Burrell . He promoted the Japan tours of western artists such as Lacy, Milford Graves and Derek Bailey , whose album New Sights, Old Sounds he produced in 1978 on his label Morgue ; he also produced Bailey's album Duo & Trio Improvisation (1978 with Kaoru Abe, Motoharu Yoshizawa, Toshi Tsuchitori , Mototeru Takagi and Toshinori Kondo ). Steve Lacy dedicated his composition Free Point to Aida , Barre Phillips dedicated track V of his album Journal Violone II (1980), Derek Bailey the track Aida recorded in 1980 and Henry Kaiser dedicated the track Aquirax Aida recorded in 1992 . He also wrote the Liner Notess for numerous albums ; drawings by him were also used for some LP titles.

Shinji Aoyama made the seven-hour documentary AA Signature (2006) about him .
