Kaiser's first recordings were made as a solo project or with groups put together spontaneously, for example with Fred Frith , the Rova Saxophone Quartet , with the pianist Greg Goodman and Diamanda Galás . In the 1980s, Kaiser oriented himself towards the rock sound of the 1960s and 1970s. With a rather improvising guitar, he worked with Derek Bailey and Jim O'Rourke . In the 1990s he recorded albums with David Lindley in Norway and Madagascar.

In the YOO MILES! Project, Kaiser and Wadada Leo Smith based themselves on the sound of the electric Miles Davis band of the 1970s.

For Werner Herzog's science fiction film The Wild Blue Yonder (2005) , Kaiser contributed underwater footage from McMurdo Sound . Kaiser produced the documentary Encounters at the End of the World (2007) by Werner Herzog, which was nominated for an Oscar for best documentary in 2009, and its music.
