Arūnas Matelis

Arūnas Matelis (born April 9, 1961 in Kaunas , Lithuanian SSR ) is a Lithuanian film director and film producer .

Life

From 1979 to 1983 Matelis studied mathematics at Vilnius University . He then went to the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater , which he graduated in 1989. In 1992, Matelis established one of the first independent film production companies in Lithuania with his company Nominum . He has so far produced around twenty films with this.

From the end of the 1980s, he published his first 35mm short films, including the ten-minute Dešimt minučių prieš Ikaro skryd „ (translated" Ten minutes before Icarus flight "). This short film was the first film that was shot in Užupis . Other short documentary films followed under his direction.

Together with his friend Audrius Stonys , also a filmmaker, Matelis shot the film Skrydis per Lietuvą arba 510 seconds (translated: “Flight over Lithuania or 510 seconds of silence”) for the Expo 2000 , in which the landscape and culture of Lithuania are presented for eight minutes become.

With a length of 52 minutes, his longest documentary film to date, Before Flight to Earth , received international attention .
