Johann-Sebastian Kühlborn

Johann-Sebastian Kühlborn (born September 9, 1943 in Berlin ) is a German provincial Roman archaeologist .

Kühlborn studied Classical Archeology, Greek Philology, Ancient History, Near Eastern Archeology and Art History at the universities in Frankfurt am Main, Heidelberg and Munich. In 1975 he received his doctorate from the University of Frankfurt with a dissertation on Cypriot grave reliefs. During his studies he took part in excavations in Germany (Frankfurt am Main, Manching ) and Turkey ( Miletus , Limyra ). From 1975 to 1978, Kühlborn led the excavations in the Xanten Archaeological Park . From 1978 to 2008 he was the head of the Roman provincial specialist department in the Office for Monument Preservation at the LWL Archeology for Westphalia . Kühlborn was responsible for the excavations in the Roman Lippe camps of Oberaden , Beckinghausen , Haltern , Holsterhausen and Anreppen . In 1983, with the start of systematic flying, he marked the beginning of aerial archeology in Westphalia. Johann-Sebastian Kühlborn is a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute , member and, since 2015, deputy chairman of the Antiquities Commission for Westphalia and honorary member of the Association for Antiquity and Homeland Care Haltern am See eV From 1981 to 1995 he was a lecturer in Provincial Roman Archeology and excavation at the University of Münster . Since 2011, Kühlborn has been chairman of the Society for the Promotion of Archeology in Ostwestfalen eV and publisher of the journal Archeology in Ostwestfalen .
