action

Twenty-year-old Zehra from Karabük in the Turkish Black Sea Province leads a dreary life. She works as a kitchen helper at a motorway service station and suffers from the monotony of the work and from her conservative parents. Her colleague Olgun wants to marry Zehra and is hoping for a win on the game show "Deal or No Deal". One day Zehra gets to know the truck driver Mahur; she falls in love with them. Mahur also arouses her wanderlust. When he becomes pregnant, however, Zehra decides to stay in Karabük and Mahur leaves her. From now on she has to come to terms with Olgun, whom she married at the end of the film, and the illegitimate child.

criticism

“Between the Internet, TV shows and shopping centers, a generation is growing up in Turkey that is still wandering aimlessly in the purgatory of self-discovery. "Fegerfeuer [sic!]" Is one of the meanings of the title "Araf". At the end there is a “poisoned” happy ending. Olgun marries Zehra. The hope for a better self-determined life that appears in the last scene is already rotten. "
