Arak canyon
The Arak Gorge is one of the most fascinating mountain formations in the Algerian Sahara . It is located about 270 km southeast of In Salah , before reaching Tamanrasset 400 km south on the southern edge of the Teffedest Mountains .
The Arak Gorge has a bizarre rocky landscape. It looks like cyclops columns that are juxtaposed and line the gorge with huge capitals . A few 100 meters in front of the rock bastion lies a single boulder on the edge of the wadi , bearing petroglyphs and Tifinagh characters .
Fenneks and jackals live in the gorge . Also, mouflon home. In a side valley of the gorge, water collects in a guelta , which is why lush vegetation in the form of reeds, red oleander and high euphorbias can be found.
There is a military base in the gorge. A draw well supplies them with clean water. Over knolls and through wadis it goes to the Mouydir Mountains in the west .
