The Río Aravalle is an approximately 25 km long tributary of the Río Tormes , which flows through the Spanish provinces of Avila and Salamanca . Its catchment area (cuenca) covers a good 350 km².
geography
The Río Aravalle rises on the north side of the Sierra de Gredos in the municipality of Puerto Castilla ; then it flows in a north-easterly direction and flows into the Río Tormes coming from the south after about 20 km southwest of the small town of El Barco de Ávila .
Tributaries
The most important tributary is the Garganta de Solana ; there are also several streams (arroyos) .
Reservoir
In the municipality of Umbrías , the river has been dammed for the purpose of drinking water since 1978; the dam wall was only about 14 m high and the total length of the reservoir was only about 500 m. In 2019, the dam was demolished by excavators for safety and ecological reasons.
