history

Various Catholic student associations formed a working group in 1926. The aim was to bundle common interests and ensure a uniform appearance in public. During the Nazi regime , the Working Group of Catholic Associations was banned as an organization hostile to the state; the AGV then dissolved itself.

After the end of the Second World War , the "Catholic German Student Union ( KDSE )" was founded in 1947 . One wanted to initiate a new beginning for the Catholic German student body. In addition to the organization itself, the aim of the efforts was to promote the university communities and to establish Catholic students more broadly. However, the KDSE was dissolved in the 1968s.

On November 13, 1969, they joined forces to form the Working Group of Catholic Student Associations (AkStV). With the decision of the German Bishops' Conference in 1973 , the reorganization of the presence of the Church in higher education was tackled. At first a "job center for pastoral work in higher education" was created. On July 18, 1974, the AkStV changed its name to the AGV (Working Group of Catholic Student Associations). In order to make clear the internal church demarcation from the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Katholischer Hochschulgemeinden , which AGG (AG Communities ) was abbreviated, the actually inappropriate abbreviation AGV (AG Associations ) was chosen.

As a youth organization, the AGV has been a member of the Federation of German Catholic Youth since 2010 ; thus she participates in an advisory capacity in the decision-making process of the BDKJ.
