Archibald St Clair, 16th Lord Sinclair
Archibald James Murray St Clair, 16th Lord Sinclair MVO ( February 16, 1875 - November 25, 1957 ) was a British peer and politician .
He was the older son of Charles St Clair, 15th Lord Sinclair (1831-1922) from his marriage to Margaret Jane Murray († 1935).
He attended Eton College and then entered the British Army . In 1896 he became 2nd Lieutenant with the 2nd Dragoons (Scots Grays) . In 1899 he was promoted to lieutenant and in 1901 to captain . He fought in the Second Boer War and the First World War . He was inducted into the Royal Company of Archers and held the court office of Extra Equerry for Prince Arthur of Connaught from 1914 to 1938 . In 1918 he was accepted as a member of the Royal Victorian Order and was awarded the Japanese Order of the Rising Sun in 1919 . At times he served as Justice of the Peace for Kirkcudbrightshire .
When his father died on April 25, 1922, he inherited his Scottish peerage as Lord Sinclair . From December 10, 1923 until his death, he was a Scottish representative peer member of the House of Lords .
From his marriage to Violet Frances Kennedy on January 31, 1906, he had two children:
- Patricia Mary St Clair (1912–1996) ⚭ Lt.-Col. Charles Archibald Richard Coghill († 1975);
- Charles Murray Kennedy St Clair, 17th Lord Sinclair (1914-2004).
When he died in 1957 at the age of 82, his son inherited his title of nobility.
