Ardhendu Bhattacharya

Ardhendu Bhattacharya (* 1955 in Shillong , † 1992 ) was an Indian film director .

Life

Bhattacharya completed postgraduate studies in philosophy at Visva-Bharati University in Shantiniketan and then went to the Film and Television Institute of India . He made documentaries in Bombay and Guwahati and also worked as a philosophy lecturer at Gauhati University . His only feature film, Manik Raitong , was made in 1984 based on a popular legend of the Khasi . It is considered the first color film in the Khasi language and has received a National Film Award . Bhattacharya was slated to direct the televised version of Birendra Kumar Bhattacharya's novel Mrityunjaya . However, the Doordarshan project did not materialize because of his untimely death.
