Visva-Bharati University is a state university in Shantiniketan ( Birbhum District , West Bengal , India ).

history

In 1863 Debendranath Tagore opened an ashram in the center of the village called chatim tala or Brahmacharya Ashram (later Brahmacharya Vidyalaya ). In 1901 a school was connected to his youngest son, Rabindranath Tagore .

In 1951 the institution was recognized as a university, at the same time it was renamed to its current name. The library was opened in 1901 and still exists today. In 1927 a small teaching hospital was built which still exists today (35 beds).

Representation and management

Paridarsaka (Visitor) is Shri Ram Nath Kovind . Acharya (Chancellor) is Narendra Modi (also Prime Minister of India). Pradhana (rector) is Jagdeep Dhankhar (also governor of West Bengal). Upacharya (Vice-Chancellor) is Bidyut Chakrabarty. Predecessors of the latter were:

The range of courses includes every major subject, from human medicine, natural sciences to linguistics, mathematics, natural sciences, journalism and information technology. The possibility of qualifications is just as varied: from a one-year Bachelor of Education to Master’s courses to doctoral studies.
