Arfa Karim

Arfa Karim Randhawa ( Urdu ارفع کریم رندهاوا; * February 2, 1995 in Ram Diwali , Faisalabad ; † January 14, 2012 in Lahore ) was a Pakistani A-level student and was considered a child prodigy in the field of computer science .

Life

Karim was from the village of Ram Dewali in Faisalabad, Punjab . Her family was wealthy and western orientated. Her father is a member of the Pakistani military and promoted Arfa, as did her two younger brothers. Arfa Karim first came into contact with computers when she was five. At the age of nine she became the youngest Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) in the world. In 2005 she was from Bill Gates invited the Microsoft to visit -Central in the US.

On August 2, 2005, Arfa Karim was awarded the Fatimah Jinnah Gold Medal in the field of science and technology by Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz of Pakistan . In August 2005 she also received the Salaam Pakistan Youth Award , presented by the then President of Pakistan Pervez Musharraf . She was also the youngest holder of the Pakistani President's Award for Pride of Performance .

Karim suffered cardiac arrest following an epileptic fit on December 22, 2011, which damaged her brain. She was admitted to the Combined Military Hospital Lahore in critical condition . Many celebrities attended the funeral service held on January 15 at the Al-Khalid Mosque in Lahore, including the Prime Minister of Punjab Province, Shahbaz Sharif . Bill Gates personally expressed his condolences to her family, who had previously tried to help and offered treatment abroad.

After her death, the Punjab government decided to name a technology park in Lahore after her.
