Argeios (son of Likymnios)
Argeios ( ancient Greek Άργεῖος ) is in Greek mythology a son of Likymnios and Perimede , the sister of Amphitryon . His brothers are Oionos , the first winner during the Olympic Games hosted by Heracles , and Melas .
The tradition of his fate is divided. On the one hand, Argeios and his brother Melas were taken by Heracles on his train against Eurytus , where both fell in battle before Oichalia and were buried by Heracles. On the other hand, Argeios is said to have accompanied Heracles in the fight against Laomedon . Before that, Heracles had to promise Likymnios, who was also his uncle, to bring Argeios home safely. However, Argeios fell before Troy, whereupon Heracles solemnly burned his body and brought the ashes back to Likymnios to keep his promise. It is said to have been the first funeral service of its kind.
