Argentière

Argentiere is a French mountaineering and ski village in the Haute-Savoie region in the French Alps in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It is located at an altitude of about 1200 meters, 10 kilometers north of Chamonix at the foot of the Aiguille Verte (4122 meters) and politically belongs to the municipality of Chamonix-Mont-Blanc .

Argentière is known for its versatile ski area on the glaciated Grands Montets , also known as the Argentière Glacier, (3295 meters), to which an aerial tramway (middle station Lognan, 1973 meters) leads over two sections . There are also a number of other lifts (gondola lift, several chair lifts, drag lifts). The Grands Montets ski area is particularly popular with ambitious skiers , freeriders and snowboarders thanks to its long and challenging runs and the numerous, sometimes very difficult off-piste variants (the most famous of which is the Pas de Chevre ) . A freeride festival takes place every year at the end of the season at the beginning of May.
