Argentiera is a fraction of the municipality of Sassari in the province of Sassari in the Italian region of Sardinia .

Argentiera is one of the few settlements on the north-west coast of Sardinia, the historic La Nurra landscape .

history

Argentiera is a historic mining settlement. The Romans , Carthaginians and Genoese mined silver , iron , lead , arsenic and mercury at Argentiera . At the beginning of the 20th century, modern technology was used to dig and the historic spoil heaps were dug up. After the Second World War , mining was given up and the conveyor systems fell into disrepair.

There are several abandoned settlements on the coast. Some of the abandoned buildings are now being used again as holiday homes or for gastronomic purposes.
