La Nurra
The almost treeless rugged mountain region of La Nurra , located between Porto Torres and Alghero or between Capo Caccia and Isola Asinara, is the most north-westerly of Sardinia's 19 landscapes . It was probably hardly populated in prehistory, as there were hardly any traces of the Sardinian cultures.
The peninsula
The Stintino peninsula with its salt lagoons and sandy beaches as well as the region's tourist center of the same name is the figurehead of the Nurra. Near the Capo del Falcone are u. a. with Spiaggia della Pelosa the most beautiful beaches in the region.
The islands
Isola Piana and Asinara - the latter for a long time penal colony - are in the north of the peninsula. Today the barely populated island of Asinara, famous for its white donkeys, is a nature park that can only be visited on guided tours.
The west coast
Still difficult to access in the northern part, the coastal region was already a mining region for silver ore in ancient times . The deserted town of Argentiera has been a ruined backdrop since 1963.
