Anghelu Ruju
The fenced off necropolis of Anghelu Ruju is about 10 km north of Alghero and north of the junction to Alghero airport in the province of Sassari in Sardinia . The complex is one of the largest and most important necropolises in the Mediterranean, as the facilities discovered in 1903 were not robbed. The 37 domus de Janas and a single grave (No. XXVI), excavated by Antonio Taramelli until 1907 and cut vertically into the limestone , date from the Ozieri (3400-2700 BC) and the subsequent Bonnanaro cultures . In the 1990s, the facility was carefully prepared and fenced.
Their appearance differs from other necropolises on the island ( Mesu 'e Montes , Montessu , Moseddu , Puttu Codinu , Sant' Andria Priu , Santu Pedru and Sos Furrighesos ). Primarily, unlike elsewhere, it is not a question of horizontally arranged chambers, but of chambers that can be reached via shafts, stairs or dromoi underground. A number of side niches in different geometries often extend from the respective main chamber. The decorative elements consist of architraves , pillars , pilasters , columns and pedestals. Of a magical-religious kind are false doors , petroglyphs and red paint often found associated with them. The partially heavily weathered remains of the reliefs (better preserved in Tomba A, XXb, XXVIII and XXX) consist primarily of bull horns. The remains of between two and 30 dead, including children, were found in the cells.

The facility was re-used by the supporters of the bell beaker culture . There were arm protection plates , decorated and undecorated ceramics , buttons with the typical V-perforation, copper awls and daggers , pearls and even silver rings in six enclosures . The finds are now housed in the National Museum of Cagliari and in the Museo Nazionale GA Sanna in Sassari .
Nearby are the Domus de janas di Scala Piccada.
