The Argentina Range is a 70 km long mountain range in the West Antarctic Queen Elizabeth Land . It extends about 35 miles east of the northern section of the Forrestal Range in the northeastern part of the Pensacola Mountains .
The mountains were discovered and photographed during the transcontinental flight carried out by the United States Navy on January 13, 1956 as part of the first Operation Deep Freeze from McMurdo Sound to the Weddell Sea and back. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it after the South American state Argentina , which has maintained research stations on the Filchner-Ronne Ice Shelf since 1955 . The mapping was carried out by the United States Geological Survey 1967 to 1968 and with the help of aerial photographs of the United States Navy.
